This morning Youngest Boy was having one of those mornings - the one where he grouses and groans, grumps and grumbles about every-loving-thing. His clothes weren't properly laid out for him. His breakfat wasn't prepared quickly enough. His brother wasn't acquiesing to his every request. And on and on. At one point he was under the table, pouting. Little One (our 20-month-old) peeked under at him.
LO: "What's wrong, brother?"
YB: "Nothing."
LO: "What's wrong, brother?"
YB: "I said, nothing!"
LO: (not one to be deterred) "What's wrong?"
YB: "NOTHING, Little One!"
LO: "Fine. Whatever." And she gave him the hand.

At lunch today:
LO: "Chip!"
Me: "You want a chip?"
LO: "NO! Chip!"
Me: "You want a chip?"
LO: "NO!" *shakes head vigorously in the negative* "CHIP!"
Me: "Let me get this straight. You say 'chip' but you don't really want a chip?"
LO: *Nods affirmative*
Me: *headdesk*
Lesson learned: You can't win an argument that you apparently aren't having.
