We had been talking about a trip to our local zoo all summer. After considering cost and such we decided a family membership was in our best interest (only $4 more and it's good for an entire year). We had to change our date at least once because of sports practice and we had exactly one shot left: September 1st, when my mom was on vacation (Hi, Mom!). It would be nice to be able to take additional adults but we have a 7-passenger van and a 6-person family so, well, YOU do the math.
We woke at 4:30AM on Zoo day not out of excitement but because a severe thunderstorm was moving through our area. A storm system that pretty much lasted until we packed up the Space Shuttle. We had a back-up plan but the kids were pretty psyched to go to the zoo so we drove there fully expecting to turn around and head to a different part of the city. We checked the radar the entire way down and, frankly, it didn't look promising. We pulled in and there were approximately 6 other cars in the lot. Mr. MOTH made an executive decision and we bought our membership. After using the restroom (it's an hour drive and I drank A LOT of coffee. See aforementioned 4:30 storm...), we headed to the first exhibit in a light drizzle. And then it started to storm. {SIGH} We waited it out. It was the BEST.DECISION.EVER! Look! NO ONE ELSE WAS AS STUPID AS US!! We had the entire place to ourselves!
My Baby Girl had the TIME OF HER LIFE. Every minute she had this expression on her face of pure happiness (except when she couldn't find the animal she wanted to see - the gorillas were OUTSIDE and she couldn't WAIT to get out of the monkey house and see them)
The kids were unbelievably stressed about this little owl and his broken wing. They are still talking about how sad it was. :(

Hey, I don't mind that your kid's on a leash. Mine were as well.
Did't kill or hurt them and they were safe!
Looks like you had a great time!
